School governors are volunteers who help to run the school. Most schools work with a group of school governors - together they’re called the 'governing body'. They’re involved in decisions about all aspects of managing the school – such as running buildings and budgets, supporting staff, setting standards of school discipline and agreeing the curriculum.
Governors represent staff, parents of current pupils and members of the community. Their term of office lasts for 4 years although they can be re-appointed.
Governors also help to make big decisions about the school’s long-term goals. They support head teachers, but also ask questions and make sure the head teacher is taking the school in the right direction.
Headteacher - the head teacher of any school is automatically a member of its Governing Body.
Parent Governors - are elected by other parents.
Staff Governors - elected by school staff.
Local Authority Governors - appointed to maintain LA links with the school.
Co-opted - people with specific skills or experience can be invited to join.
Associate members - attend meetings and give advice but do not have voting rights.
The Full Governing Body meets once each term, in Autumn, Spring and Summer. There are 4 committees of the Governing Body which meet at least once a term:

The Governing Body of Westwood Park Primary School is made up of 8 members. Our Chair of Governors is Mr Philip Royle.
