Phonics & Reading

Our Phonics Scheme is READ WRITE INC.

We use the highly successful Read Write Inc. phonics programme to teach our children to read, write and spell.  

We start by teaching phonics to the children in the Nursery class once they are settled and ready. This means that they learn how to ‘read’ the sounds in words and how those sounds can be written down. This is essential for reading, but it also helps children learn to spell well. We teach the children simple ways of remembering these sounds and letters.

Reading

It is our intention to ensure that, by the end of their primary education, all pupils are able to read fluently and with confidence in any subject. We value reading as a life skill and are dedicated to enabling our pupils to become lifelong readers. 

Reading at Home

You can support you child learning to read by ensuring you read their book which they will bring home with them, each night. 

We have also compiled a list of 'Great Books to Read', by year group to give you soem fantastic suggestions of books to read at hoem or from your local library.
