Intent:

It is our intention to ensure that, by the end of their primary education, all pupils are able to read fluently and with confidence in any subject. We value reading as a life skill and are dedicated to enabling our pupils to become lifelong readers. We intend to provide a high quality English Curriculum that teaches pupils to read, speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas to others. We nurture a culture where children take pride in their writing, can write clearly, imaginatively and accurately and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts. We inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and to use discussion to communicate and further their learning in all areas of the curriculum. The curriculum has been designed to enthuse and engage learners, to foster a love of reading and to provide our children with rich and varied learning opportunities. Having a well-planned curriculum, enriched with class novels and a carefully structured progression of skills allows us to have high expectations of all children.
